Erasmus+ in PDLS

Erasmus+ in Presentation de la Salle College

Since 2023, Presentation De La Salle (PDLS) has proudly participated in the Erasmus+ programme, securing valuable funding that has opened doors to enriching international experiences for both staff and students. Over the past two years, we have embraced a variety of mobilities, including short-term exchanges, group visits, and specialised courses and training opportunities for our dedicated staff. These initiatives have significantly enhanced our educational practices, broadened cultural horizons, and strengthened our commitment to fostering global citizenship within our school community. Under the coordination of Emma Bolger (ebolger@pdlsbagenalstown.com), our Erasmus+ journey has been marked by collaboration, innovation, and a deep appreciation for the benefits this programme affords. The impact has been transformative—empowering teachers with new methodologies, inspiring students to engage with diverse cultures, and promoting language learning as a vital skill for the future.

Looking ahead, we are excited to continue this journey with a series of upcoming mobilities in 2026 that promise to further enrich our school community. In March, we will travel to France to immerse ourselves in the language and culture, strengthening our linguistic competence and deepening our appreciation for French heritage. We will also visit our partner school in Greece to explore their innovative approaches to sustainability, gaining insights that will inform our own environmental initiatives. In April, our focus will shift to Austria, where we aim to advance our German language skills while experiencing the vibrant Austrian culture firsthand. These opportunities reflect our ongoing commitment to providing students and staff with authentic, meaningful learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

Erasmus+ has been instrumental in shaping a dynamic, outward-looking school environment at PDLS. We are immensely grateful for the support and resources that make these mobilities possible, and we recognise the profound impact they have on personal growth, professional development, and intercultural understanding. As we prepare for the next chapter of our Erasmus+ journey, we look forward to building lasting partnerships, sharing best practices, and continuing to inspire our school community through the power of international collaboration.

From Bagenalstown to Europe
Group Mobilities allow a class or a group of pupils to travel together to a partner school in another European country for a short-term educational experience, usually lasting from 2 to 30 days. Students can either stay together in supervised accommodation or with host families to experience everyday life in the local community. These visits are carefully planned to include cultural activities, collaborative projects, and opportunities to learn about different teaching methods and lifestyles. The main goal is to promote teamwork, intercultural understanding, and language development while giving pupils a chance to experience life in another country without committing to a long stay. This type of mobility is ideal for students who prefer to travel as part of a group.

Short term Mobilities are designed for individual pupils who spend between 10 and 29 days studying in a partner school abroad. Unlike a group mobility, this experience is more immersive; students live with a host family and attend classes alongside local pupils. It helps participants develop independence, adaptability, and confidence while improving language skills and gaining a deeper understanding of another culture. These exchanges are fully supported by the school and Erasmus+ guidelines, ensuring that learning objectives are met and safeguarding measures are in place. Short-term mobility is an excellent opportunity for students who want a more personal and intensive international experience without committing to a long-term exchange.
